Top 4 Apps For A Better Travel Experience

While traveling is indeed a fun-filled, exhilarating, and exciting experience, it is also fraught with risks and challenges, especially if one were to be stuck in the middle of nowhere with perhaps nothing of use besides a Smartphone. But this is no cause for worry since technology is always on our side and we can make the best use of the worst situation through the use of gadgets, apps, and technology to wriggle out of tight travel situations These are some of the apps that could be safely, conveniently and hopefully used for travel apps, either singly or in combination.

Google Maps: By far one of our most trusted maps and trackers, this is free for Android users and in mobile phones has built-in GPS capability to provide street views and detailed guidance that could well plan and organize travel routes and unfamiliar terrain. This provides worldwide navigation except in some destinations where its use is blocked. Through the use of built-in devices, smartphones can double as compasses, gaining traveling and public transit data; gain traffic views in urban settings too and also determine longitudinal and latitudinal locations. Google Maps for Android also has a built-in facility for indoor tracking, especially in shopping malls, airports, and other places. This could be easily accessed on Blackberry and iPhone by navigating the phone’s web browser or by use of map widget on phone. Voice facility is also available instead of having to type instructions.

Hopstop: This is a travel mobile app that serves as a navigational tool for pedestrians, bikers, or those who commute by public transports like buses, ferries, and trains.

Through this, it is possible to track subway stations and gain a transit schedule. This is indeed excellent for public transportation trips and also offers taxi guides from departure to destination. This app could also be used for gaining data on hotels, restaurants, food joints, or bars, and also provides city guides, perhaps unheard of in mobile navigation applications.

CoPilot GPS: Just a 2-year-old app, CoPilot GPS features offline storage of navigation data and statistics, quite different from other apps that need internet connectivity or cell tower accessibility to watch maps during travels. This free app is available in most iPhones and Android systems and offers options up to three walking or driving routes, along with standardized maps. Premium versions also offer voice navigation with vocal turn-by-turn including the names of streets and so on.

Trapster: This app provides alerts for speed traps, street cameras and also warns against constructional hazards that could delay travel. It also senses traffic problems and digs out inputs from the database of nearly 15 million users to provide real-time data to enhance and secure travel needs and expectations. It offers data on traffic bottlenecks, snarls, school zones, toll plazas, and narrow pathways that could stall travel plans. The premium versions offer more facilities for detecting traffic hazards and other issues that could impede travel and trips and also offers ready solutions on how to overcome them.

It is always safer to have some travel apps preloaded while on travel since we do not know when this could be needed and come in handy. Please do not leave home without some kind of travel insurance apps.

Tips For Acquiring Android App Users

Android devices are more customizable and, therefore, more complicated to use, lacking the elegant interface of iOS apps. They are also generally less expensive, thus becoming more mainstream – especially in global markets. Google operates in a much more open environment, making it easier on the developer but causing some chaos in the marketplace. For example, developers can use multiple billing systems, making it more difficult for a user to purchase an app and causing lower conversions for app developers utilizing premium billing or in-app purchasing. They also have ad-hoc quality control for apps with minimal central vetting, creating a confusing marketplace and major piracy problems. In a recent article, my company reported that premium developers are seeing 100 pirated app installs for every one legitimate paid app install. For developers, app development and porting can be more difficult due to the fragmentation of devices, while device manufacturers can turn off features, adding additional complexity.

Key Points About User Acquisition On Android

Android Market is not as influential as Apple’s App Store in-app discovery by users, so strategies to rank high are not as impactful. Also, the Android Market handles rankings a bit differently than iOS, causing bursting campaigns to be less impactful.

In addition to Android Market, app developers should consider taking the time to publish their apps in key third-party app stores, like Amazon’s Appstore and SlideME. These third-party app stores will often offer favorable terms to entice developers, creating another meaningful alternative user acquisition channel.

Similar to iOS, third-party ad networks, especially those focused on apps, perform well to drive user acquisition. Since payment-based business models are not performing as well for app developers, there is an even greater supply of ad inventory, which is driving down the rates versus iOS. Expect the cost to acquire a user to be less on Android.
Carrier and handset partner deals. It is reported that Google is sharing advertising revenue with carriers and handset partners that use Android.

Android Demographics

Android users skew males at 73 percent compared to 57 percent on the iPhone and 54 percent on the iPod touch, according to a chart by AdMob.

Additionally, Mobile Mix shows 65 percent of impressions on connected devices are on smartphones, 18 percent are on connected devices, and 17 percent are on feature phones. Of the smartphone OS Mix, 54 percent were Android, 26 percent were iOS, 15 percent were RIM, and 5 percent were other.

The more you know about the device and platform, the more effective you will be in promoting your app. The smartphone market is changing rapidly, so it pays to do your research and adapt your user acquisition strategy based upon the audience you are targeting.
